What's So Special About Oromia Coffee?
For us, the Oromo people, coffee means ‘life’. The Oromia region of Ethiopia is known as the ‘birthplace of coffee’ and from ancient times the Oromo people have used coffee as food, drink, trade, spiritual nourishment and as a tool for peace-keeping. The Oromo Coffee Company represents a group of Oromo refugees now settled in the UK – but coffee is still in our blood…
We have personally selected for you a range of superb quality coffees from our homeland – Yirgacheffe, Harar and Limu.
By purchasing it you are not only ensuring a good price for smallholder farmers belonging to the Oromia Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union in Ethiopia, but you are also helping communities in the UK. We hope that you will love our coffee as much as we do!
Our Coffees
Ethiopia is the birthplace of coffee and the heritage of all of the great Arabica coffees of the world can be traced back to the Oromia region. The altitude, climate, soil and terrain in these highland plateaus exist in perfect harmony. Combining these natural advantages with the skill and dedication needed to harvest and process the Arabica beans has led to some of the world’s finest coffees being found here.
Each of our coffees – Yirgacheffe, Harar and Limu are available as either whole beans, to grind as freshly as you like, or pre-ground for your immediate enjoyment.
Yirgacheffe |
A Lively Daytime Coffee |
Strength 3 |
Yirgacheffe is one of the world’s most renowned “washed” coffees, from the region of Yirgacheffe within Ethiopia’s southern highlands. The coffee is lighter bodied, complex and clean tasting with good acidity. The coffee’s lemon citrus and floral notes are best married to a medium roast and this makes for a delightful daytime cup. |

Harar |
A Stimulating Breakfast Coffee |
Strength 4 |
Harar is a classic “natural” coffee from the eastern Harar region of Ethiopia. Sun drying the coffee in its fruit cherry lends the coffee fantastically winey, gamey and blueberry aromas with a full bodied, smooth, chocolaty taste. Complimented by a fuller roast, this really makes a great first cup of the day. |

Limu |
A Memorable After Dinner Coffee |
Strength 5 |
Our Limu is a “washed” coffee grown in the south-west of Ethiopia. Very balanced and clean in taste and with less acidity than the Yirgacheffe, we roast this coffee darker to develop more bittersweet chocolate flavours and a long, spicy finish. With good body and an incredible smoothness, it makes a fine after dinner coffee. |
